The Department of Language Studies announces a postdoctoral fellow in Multilingualism or Swedish as a Second Language, in educational contexts.

Job description
As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to conduct your own individually designed project, including publications and engagement with the surrounding community. You will also participate in the development of the subject's research environment, for example through participation in seminars, research networks and gatherings. You are also expected to attend other meetings and gatherings at the department, such as workplace meetings and staff days. The position includes teaching up to a maximum of twenty percent of the total working time.

The position is placed at the Department of Language Studies but is also intended to support research into educational sciences at Umeå University as a whole. As a postdoctoral researcher you will thus contribute actively to the interdisciplinary career programme for newly graduated doctoral students that is run by Umeå School of Education.

Qualifications
In order to be appointed as a postdoctoral fellow, it is required to have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree within or relevant to one or more of the advertised research areas. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled no later than at the time of the employment decision.

To be appointed under the postdoctoral agreement, priority should be given to candidates who completed their doctoral degree, according to what is stipulated in the paragraph above, no later than three years prior. If there are special reasons, candidates who completed their doctoral degree prior to that may also be eligible. Special reasons include absence due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade union organizations, military service, or similar circumstances, as well as clinical practice or other forms of appointment/assignment relevant to the subject area.

Postdoctoral fellows who are to teach or supervise must have taken relevant courses in teaching and learning in higher education.

A precondition is that the applicant has not previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University for more than a year within the same or equivalent discipline.

In the selection research expertise will be given primary importance.

Special importance will be given to research publications and the outlined project's originality and feasibility.

Great importance will be given to how well the planned project complements and challenges the research environment at the Department of Language Studies as well as the existing research environment's opportunities to contribute positively to the implementation of the planned project.

Good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in English, as well as good ability to collaborate, are also requirements for the position.
