Umeå Center for Gender Studies is searching for a postdoctoral researcher with a focus on gender. The employment amounts to two years of full time with placement at Umeå Center for Gender Studies, Umeå University. The employment includes own research with at least 80% of full-time. Teaching amounts to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Starting date is September 1 2021 or upon agreement.

The employment

The position is funded by the Faculty of Social Sciences as part of a research initiative starting in 2021. The postdoc will be placed at Umeå Center for Gender Studies.

The postdoc will conduct their own research with a focus on gender studies. The research shall be described in a research plan by the applicant.

Eligibility

For this position, applicants must have a doctoral degree in gender studies or equivalent scientific competence that is considered relevant in relation to the research conducted at the Umeå Center for Gender Studies. Those who have a foreign degree that is considered comparable to this can also be considered eligible. Eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is a person who, at the end of the application day at the latest, has completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree considered comparable to a doctoral degree. 

Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application closing date. A candidate who has completed their degree prior to this may be considered for the position if special circumstances exist. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions or other similar circumstances.

A requirement is that the applicant can express her/himself well in both spoken and written English, a merit is good knowledge in spoken and written Swedish.

 
Assessment criteria

We are happy to see applicants who conduct or have conducted research with a focus on gender studies. The most important basis for assessment is the contribution to the research area as described in the applicant's research plan and previous scientific production. The ability to conduct independent research and the ability to participate in research collaborations are also important qualifications.
 
Teaching is included as part of the position and documented experience of teaching, on both basic and advanced levels, as well as completed pedagogical education are therefore relevant qualifications. However, because conducting independent research is the main responsibility of a postdoctoral researcher, research qualifications outweigh pedagogical qualifications when assessing eligible applicants.

Other assessment criteria include a good ability to cooperate, as well as other suitability that is considered to be a prerequisite for full implementation of tasks.
