The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

Postdoctoral position with focus on metastatic prostate cancer at the Department of Medical Biosciences

The Department of Medical Biosciences belongs to the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University and conducts research and teaching in the fields of Clinical Chemistry, Medical and Clinical Genetics and Pathology. There are approx.90 people employed at the department. We are recruiting a postdoctoral position in a research group that conducts research on prostate cancer. In the research group, several parallel projects are underway with the overall aim of understanding the mechanisms behind tumor growth and treatment response / resistance in metastatic disease.

Project description and work tasks
The project aims to clarify interactions between genetic and epigenetic changes in the occurrence of bone metastases in prostate cancer and identify new treatment options based on these. The research will involve bioinformatic analyzes of large-scale data as well as functional studies and evaluation of potential treatment strategies in experimental model systems in vitro and in vivo.

Qualifications
To be eligible for the position, applicants must hold a doctoral degree. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three (3) years before the closing date for application. A candidate who has completed their degree prior to this date may be considered in the event of special circumstances. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave or clinical service, trust assignments within trade unions or other similar circumstances.

The applicant should have documented and a thorough knowledge of prostate cancer and metastases. Documented, hands-on experience of bioinformatics, molecular biological and cell biological laboratory techniques as well as rats / mice management, is a requirement.

Other desirable qualificaitons
The successful applicant should be able to work independently in the laboratory and have the ability to cooperate with others in a positive way. In addition, the applicant should have good experience in compiling results for scientific publications and should also have good organizational skills. The applicant should also be highly proficient in written and spoken English. Furthermore, great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics such as cooperative ability, flexibility, drive and independence.

Employment period
The position is full-time and is limited to two (2) years. The start date is as soon as possible or upon agreement.
