The department of Culture and Media Studies is part of the Faculty of Arts at Umeå University, and has a broad educational and research field within the discipline’s ethnology, journalism, art history and visual studies, cultural analysis, literary studies, media- and communication studies and museology. The department has about 60 employees and the unique combination of disciplines makes the department a creative milieu with an intersection of arts, culture, media and literature. http://www.kultmed.umu.se

The department of Culture and Media Studies is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Art History and Visual Studies.

Qualifications and evaluation criteria
A person who has been awarded a doctorate in Art History and Visual Studies, Theory and History of Art or the equivalent or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate in either of the subjects is qualified for the employment as a postdoctoral researcher. A precondition is that the applicant has not previously been employed as a postdoc at Umeå University for more than a year within the same or an equivalent discipline. The degree must be completed no more than three years before the closing date of the application unless special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave or clinical practice, appointments of trust in trade union organizations or similar circumstances.

Research merits are the primary basis for evaluation. The ranking of the candidates is based on the quality of the research merits.

Particular emphasis will be put on the candidates’ experience of research in art history and visual studies or theory and history of arts.

A general assessment criterion is both good ability to work with others, as well as the competence and suitability otherwise required to carry out the work duties successfully.

Terms of employment
The postdoctoral position involves research for two years and active participation in the disciplines’ research activities. Teaching can be included up to 20 % of a fulltime position.

The postdoc is a two-year full-time position (100%) starting on 2020-03-01 or as agreed. The place of work is Umeå and high level of attendance at the department is a requirement.
