Professor of Psychology with a focus on sports and physical activity

The Department of Psychology is looking for a Professor of Psychology with a focus on sports and physical activity.

Umeå University, as one of Sweden's National Sports University, seeks several employees in the field of sports science with placement either at the Department of Psychology or the Department of Education. At both institutions have strong sports research environments that run, among other things, the Psychologist program with a focus on sports and the Sports Science program with a focus on strategic leadership and development. In addition, at the Department of Psychology there is a clinical Psychology reception for Sports and at the Department of Education teacher training courses for sports and health.

In the autumn of 2020, the institutions will start a new trainer program together, and for this purpose more staff are needed who conduct relevant research and who have teaching experience in the fields.

As an employee at one of the departments, there are excellent opportunities, through the School of Sports at Umeå University, to use established partnerships with specialized sports associations, to be part of established interdisciplinary research groups and developed international networks and to collaborate with Umeå municipality, local and regional sports organizations and business.

Work duties
The position involves the initiation, leading and development of research at the Department. This includes conducting your own research, initiating new research projects and actively working on applications to secure external funding. Initially, the research should focus on sports and physical activity, as well as contributing to the development of departmental activities. The role includes teaching and supervision at all levels, active participation in the activities of the Department and collaboration with the surrounding community. The position may include management assignments. The role includes internal funding that currently makes research time and skills development time possible. At least 20 per cent of the role consists of teaching. The place of employment is Umeå. The duties require your presence at the workplace.

Eligibility
To be eligible to be employed as a professor, you must be able to demonstrate both scientific and educational skills in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at Umeå University.

Assessment criteria
When employing a professor, the applicable assessment criterion is the degree of such expertise that is a requirement for eligibility for employment, i.e. scientific and educational expertise.

General assessment criteria for teachers at Umeå University are both a good ability to collaborate, as well as skills and aptitude in other things that are necessary to carry out the work duties well.

Scientific expertise must have been demonstrated through independent scientific production.

The assessment criteria for scientific expertiseare are:

- breadth and depth of research – quality and scope
- originality of research
- productivity
- contributions to the international scientific community
- assignments within the scientific community
- ability to compete to secure external research funds
- collaboration with surrounding communities

Educational expertise must have been demonstrated through documented experience of teaching on a scientific basis within the university.

The assessment criteria for educational expertiseare are:
the ability to plan, carry out and evaluate teaching, as well as the ability to supervise and examine students at all levels of education

the ability to vary teaching methods and forms of examination in relation to expected study results and the nature of the subject

experience in collaborating with surrounding communities in the planning and implementation of education

participation in the development of learning environments, teaching materials and teaching aids

a reflective approach to student learning and their own role as teacher

When assessing administrative skills, an emphasis is placed on the ability to manage and develop the activities and staff, experience with confidential assignments at departmental, faculty or university level, etc., as well as through a generally well-documented ability demonstrating interdisciplinary cooperation at both national and international levels. A significant emphasis is placed on collaboration, initiative and commitment to developing the activities.

Equal care should be devoted to testing educational expertise as much as testing scientific expertise.

Balance between assessment criteria
When balancing the different assessment criteria, the greatest importance will be placed on scientific expertise. A significant emphasis will also be placed on educational expertise. In addition, the degree of administrative skill and ability to collaborate will apply.
