The Department of Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Science and Technology is now looking for an Associate Professor in the field of Cell Biology with a focus on Pharmacology or Toxicology. The employee must conduct independent research and provide research education, as well as teach at the undergraduate level,supervise PhD students and participate in post-graduate education in the subject area. Description of the employment
The employee must conduct independent research and foster research education in Cell Biology with a focus on Pharmacology or Toxicology, and with an emphasis on biological processes in mammalian cells. (S)he should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate students and is also expected to undertake responsibility for whole study programmes, supervise final degree thesis research projects and examining. In addition, the employee will have administrative and organizational responsibilities within the framework of the department and the faculty. A successful applicant is expected to be able to teach at the undergraduate level in Pharmacology and Toxicology.

External recruitments will have opportunity to negotiate for support to establish their research at the department.

Since the employee must be able to perform administrative and pedagogical tasks that require understanding and use of the Swedish language, it is important to be able to communicate in Swedish within three years of taking-up the position.

Eligibility and assessment criteria
To be employed as an Associate Professor, the applicant must be able to demonstrate pedagogical skills, and have either obtained a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence or have any other professional skills that are relevant to the subject or other defined tasks associated with the employment.

Assessment criteria for the employment is first and foremost based upon the degree of scientific and pedagogical merits. Thereafter, administrative merits and other significant merits relevant to the subject content and to the defined tasks outlined within the employment description are considered. Finally, skills to develop and lead activities and staff at the university and the ability to interact with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work are considered.

When selecting applicants for the position, the following weighting of the respective merits is applied: scientific competence 70 %, pedagogical competence 20 %, administrative competence, and ability to lead and develop activities and staff at the university, 10 %. In addition, the ability to interact with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work shall be taken into account.
 
When assessing the scientific skills, special weight will be placed on independent research efforts within the subject and also on the timeliness, quality and originality of the scientific research efforts. The degree of scientific skill is primarily assessed on the ability to independently plan and lead research and graduate research education, where significant weight is placed on scientific work published in internationally renowned peer-reviewed scientific journals, in which the applicants are able to demonstrate having had a prominent role, and also on the ability to successfully compete for external research funding in (inter)national competition. It is a requirement to possess documented experience of modern molecular biology methods for addressing issues in cell biology with a focus on pharmacology or toxicology, and with emphasis on biological processes in mammalian cells. Applicants with a main research focus on Structural Biology are given lower priority as such skills and infrastructure are found at other university departments.

Pedagogical skills must relate to the subject area of Cell and Molecular Biology as well as Pharmacology/Toxicology; at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Documented evidence demonstrating experience in planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of teaching, as well as in research supervision in the stated subject areas is merited.

Administrative skill as well as the capacity to lead and develop activities and staff, must relate to a documented ability to lead and initiate research activities, to interact with other research groups, to perform administrative tasks at departmental and faculty level, and to interact with the surrounding society.
