The Department of Geography at the Social Science Faculty seeks applications for a position as a senior research assistant to work with GIS in a collaboration with HumLab. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the inter-disciplinary research project: CLIMTOUR: Operational climate service for European tourism operators financed by EU (ECMWF). 

The work will be focused on the development of GIS applications within the framework of various research projects conducted at Humlab (40%). The tasks also include working with researchers to solve GIS-related problems and assist them with visualization and analysis of data. Furthermore, the successful applicant will conduct qualified research that focuses on the effects of climate change on winter tourism employing GIS methods (25%). Departmental work, with focus on advanced GIS will also be included.

About employment
The full-time employment contract is between 2019-07-31 and 2021-05-31. The position is placed in Umeå, at the Department of Geography and HumLab. The successful applicant is expected to participate in common departmental activities.

Qualifications
In order to be qualified for the position, the person must have achieved a doctoral degree in human geography. The main assessment criteria for the appointment are documented competence within GIS and documented research skills and academic track record. Applicants must be able to analyze longitudinal micro-data, be familiar with geographical information systems and speak and write English fluently.

We also want you to be flexible in your work, you should take initiative and be able to work independently. We want you to take full responsibility for the task at hand. The work also requires you to collaborate with others within and outside Umeå University.
