We seek a field assistant to support river and watershed research in the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science (EMG).  The employment is on full time for 6 months. Starting date is March 1st, 2019 or according to agreement. Last day of application is 2019-02-11. We welcome your application!

Project description
This position is to assist and coordinate ongoing research into the ecology and biogeochemistry of boreal and arctic streams.

Job description
The field assistant will coordinate activities in both the field and laboratory.  Specific field-related duties include collecting benthic samples (invertebrates and algae) from streams at monthly intervals and maintaining a network of environmental sensors (e.g., that measure light and dissolved oxygen) deployed at field sites in Vindeln and Abisko.  In the laboratory, this person will be responsible for processing benthic samples, which will include picking and identifying stream macroinvertebrates and preparing samples for isotopic and fatty acid analysis.  Finally, the field assistant will be in charge of downloading and collating the continuous dissolved oxygen data from approximately 20 streams/rivers deployed across northern Sweden.

Qualifications
Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Ecology, Biogeochemistry, or closely related field. We seek an individual with experience working in arctic or boreal stream ecosystems, under potentially challenging field conditions. Prior experience working with stream benthic samples (algae and/or invertebrates) is important. A valid driver’s license is a requirement.

Experience using or maintaining environmental sensors in aquatic ecosystems will also be valued.
