The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

The Department of Medical and Translational Biology at the Faculty of Medicine is now seeking a Staff Scientist, with a focus on Cancer neuroscience. The position is a fixed-term appointment for 12 months.

Description

The project probes the molecular links between nerves and tumors leading to nerve plasticity (such as growth and remodelling), tumor growth and perineural invasion and involves areas of cancer, neuroscience developmental-, cell- and molecular biology and drug development.

Description of tasks

The selected candidate will conduct research on the project which predominantly involves laboratory work as detailed by the methods below in addition to organization and technical tasks, verbal and written presentation and administrative tasks associated with the research project. 

Qualifications

The following skills and qualifications are required:

  • A PhD in the areas of either cancer or neuroscience or other subjects that the employer considers relevant to the tasks. 
  • Good level of competence in the main techniques used in the work: cell culture of mammalian cell lines (including making genetically modified stable cell lines, flow cytometry, viability and apoptosis assays), scratch assay, whole embryo culture, biochemistry techniques (such as western blots), molecular biology techniques (CRISPR-CAS9, use of siRNA and shRNA, qPCR), working with mouse embryos, immunofluorescence and imaging (such as confocal microscopy).
  • Good competence of standard software including the statistical software Prism.
  • Experience with working with and managing transgenic mouse colonies and a good grasp of mouse genetic technologies.
  • As the lab is multicultural it is required to be fluent in English (comprehension, verbal and written forms).
  • Permission (certificate or course) to work with animals in Sweden.
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a collaborative team.

Other Desired Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following will be viewed favorably:

  • Experience in nerve-tumor interactions.
  • Knowledge and experience with methodology used in developmental biology.
  • Experience working with immunolabeling of patient derived human tissue samples.
  • Prior experience of supervising others or attaining own grants.
  • Prior experience with drug discovery or development.
  • Good writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with the method CHIP.

 

Terms of Employment

The position is full-time and limited to 12 months. Start date is 260301 or as agreed.
