The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden is the Swedish node for the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. Our mission is to promote research excellence in infection medicine and to foster the careers of the next generation of researchers in this field. Through our partnership with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and a strong network of Nordic partners, we connect Swedish science to an expanding family of European research centres for molecular medicine.

We are looking for a project coordinator for temporary position on full-time, with a starting date in mid-September 2025 or by agreement. The position is located at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå University.

Job description

As a project coordinator, you will work closely with and report directly to the MIMS leadership and MIMS science manager to efficiently manage scientific projects and programmes. You will work as a team with an event coordinator under the day-to-day management of the science manager.

You will be primarily responsible for coordinating MIMS initiatives and acting as contact person. Tasks include planning and executing activities for e.g. selection panels, steering groups, and fellowship programmes and recruitments. You will also gather feedback and assessments, prepare reports and support events.

Initiatives you will help to deliver can include Clinical Research Fellowship and MIMS Investigator Programmes, aiming to link a national target group to our Nordic partnership. Building and maintaining strong networks and communication with researchers, clinicians and research-support staff is crucial for this role. Activities also need to be linked with the dedicated administrative services of the department to ensure seamless coordination and processes.

Other duties may include taking an active role or providing support in delivering a mentoring programme for young MIMS group leaders and establishing an alumni network. Further day-to-day tasks may be assigned as required.

Qualifications

  • You will need a good understanding of the work processes within research and related to administration.
  • To fulfil this role effectively, you must be able to communicate with our researchers.
  • Given the nature of the tasks, you should be a service-oriented person with excellent communication and organizational skills, and willingness to travel.
  • University education (minimum Master's degree) is required.
  • You have a good ability to see the overall picture and experience working with planning and organizational issues within universities.
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English.
  • You enjoy working both as part of a team and independently.
  • As a person you are open-minded, social, creative, flexible and initiative taking

Meritorius qualifications

  • Knowledge and documented experience of the day-to-day running of a research institute at a university.
  • Previous experience in project coordination at a university or research institute is advantageous but not a requirement.
  • A scientific background close to the research field of MIMS and international experience are an advantage.
  • Experience in planning and organizing activities that engage the public is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of Swedish.
