The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.
The Department of community medicine and rehabilitation comprises five units; Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Geriatrics, Sports medicine and Rehabilitation medicine, all involved in teaching, research and collaboration with society and health care.
PhD student in Medical Science with a focus on the role of housing for active and healthy ageing
The Department of community medicine and rehabilitation is looking for a PhD student in medical science, with a focus on occupational therapy. Admission as soon as possible or by agreement.
As a PhD student, you will be part of an interdisciplinary research group focusing on how housing and relocation promote active and healthy ageing. The project is carried out in collaboration with researchers at Lund University within the RELOC-AGE research programme. A web-based housing counselling service has been developed in the programme with the aim of supporting older people to make well-informed decisions about their future housing. The doctoral project includes studying the implementation of the housing counselling service in two Swedish municipalities. In addition, a longitudinal study is included in which people 55 years or older are followed over time with the aim of investigating how housing and relocation affect activity and healthy aging.
The PhD student position involves full-time education for four years. As a doctoral student, you are part of a doctoral education program at the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University together with all doctoral students at the faculty irrespective of research topic. Together with the research group, you will primarily work with planning and carrying out research within the project, with an emphasis on data collection, analysis, and reporting of results. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are used in the project. Teaching may be included in the doctoral position. At most, teaching can amount to 20% over the entire four-year period, and if included, the doctoral period is extended proportional to the amount of teaching. The position is stationed in Umeå.
Qualifications
