The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.
The Department of Epidemiology and Global Health is an international, multidisciplinary research and teaching environment located within Umeå University’s Faculty of Medicine. Founded in 1986, we now have around 80 people from all over the world working in the department, with a shared mission to contribute to equitable and sustainable improvements in health and welfare across the globe.
The project is an EU Horizon project called CATALYSE (Climate Action To Advance healthy Societies in Europe). The Department of Epidemiology and Global Health is leading one of the project's work packages that focuses on both application and research on knowledge translation, climate and health communication.
The overall goal of CATALYSE is to contribute to data, new knowledge, and tools on: 1) the relationship between climate change related to environmental hazards, as well as ecosystems and human health; 2) the health benefits of climate action; 3) the role of scientific evidence on health in decision-making related to climate change; and 4) the societal consequences of climate change for health systems.
The position involves conducting studies to better understand how decision-makers, the public and other key stakeholders engage with evidence on the health dimensions of climate change and to what extent it motivates or inhibits behavioral and/or organizational change.
The work primarily includes literature studies and studies using qualitative methodology. The candidate that gets the position is expected to play an active role in the design, collection, and analysis of various forms of data, as well as scientific writing.
The work also involves some participation in other parts of the group's work in the area of sustainability, climate change and health at the department.
The work requires a Master of science degree in public health, or education that the employer deems to be equivalent. Another requirement is knowledge of and experience in policy processes, knowledge translation, and communication and experience of work with literature studies, qualitative studies and international collaborations.
The position requires very good communicative and analytical skills as well as pedagogical experience. Very good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in English is a requirement. Applicants must also have good ability to collaborate in a team as well as independently.
It is a merit if the applicant has experience from the area of climate change and health and international work in the field. An additional advantage is if the applicant has experience relevant to the universities' collaboration task.
