The Department of Political Science
The Department of Political Science at Umeå University has about 70 employees and conducts research in fields such as peace and conflict studies, representative democracy, municipalities and administration, and sustainable development (for more information, see https://www.umu.se/en/department-of-political-science/).
Job description
The department is looking for a staff scientist to work primarily within a research and infrastructure project that aims to collect and analyze systematic data on the central actors of representative democracy: political parties, parliaments, and governments. The employment is limited to 10 months full-time.
Working tasks
The work will mainly be conducted within the research project and infrastructure REPDEM, which is part of the national research infrastructure DEMSCORE. Work in other research projects may also occur.
The work includes collection, processing, analysis, and quality assurance of data and matching with other social science databases. The tasks also include being an active supporting resource within the project and the research environment. This includes coordinating the activities and data collection with international experts participating in the project. The work also consists of some supervision and the writing of scientific works.
Other administrative and pedagogical tasks may also be included to a lesser extent.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a PhD in Political Science. You should also have knowledge/experience in writing scientific works, statistics, and statistical programming. Previous experience in the field of comparative European politics and coalition studies is a requirement.
The task requires very good knowledge of English, both in speech and writing, as well as good communication skills. To be considered for the position, you must be thorough, independent, and have good collaboration skills. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
