Umeå Institute of Design (UID) is looking for 4-5 students who want to help out in the school's workshops.
Tasks
The work as a teaching assistant means that you are employed by Umeå university and work in the workshop at UID.
The tasks in the workshop consist of:
- Different kinds of service and maintenance jobs
- Control and maintenance of equipment for digital production (laser, 3D-printers, milling machines)
- Control and maintenance of workshop machines in regard to safety and function
- Make sure that there is order in the workshop premises
- Instruct other students in different techniques (if there is time)
- Keep material accessible
- Lock and close the workshop if necessary
- Support to technicians
Qualifications
To apply for the positions you should:
- Be a student in the Industrial Design Programme or Master’s Programme at UID
- Have good social skills
- Have a interest in the workshop tasks described above
- Show interest in digital production and of the workshop machines
It is meritorious if you have had similar tasks before.
Terms of employment
The positions are 10% of full time during the fall semester of 2024 and spring semester 2025. The employment starts the 1st of November or according to agreement and starts with with introduction and training in your duties by experienced staff at UID.

The selection among the applicants is made based on the applicant’s merits, suitability and experience of similar tasks. We aim to recruit at least one student per study programme at UID. The application must be a maximum of two A4 pages and contain a description of the knowledge, experience and interest that you have and think are relevant to the position. The application is made via Umeå University's recruitment system Varbi.
