Umeå University is looking for a project assistant with experience in electron microscopy and structure biology. The position is financed and associated to SciLifeLab’s national research infrastructure. The employment is for 12 months. Application deadline is September 9, 2024.

Description
We are looking for a project assistant/research engineer for electron microscopy and molecular biology facility support at UCEM (Umeå Centre for Electron Microscopy), at the Department of Chemistry within research infrastructure. The position includes responsibility for the daily operation of lab environments, preparing solutions and to prepare cells, proteins and macromolecular complexes for electron microscopy, as well as assisting researchers with these methods. Experiments and results must be carefully and continuously documented and reported. We are looking for an independent employee, who can be flexible, get involved in various research projects and collaborate together with the members of UCEM's research groups. The working language is English.

Qualifications
For this position, we are looking for a molecular biologist, with theoretical, technical and practical knowledge in biochemistry and biotechnology. The work is suitable for a person with a bachelor's degree in life science with specialization in the mentioned areas, alternatively an engineering degree with a focus on biotechnology or similar. You must have at least 1 year of practical experience in laboratory work and electron microscopy. Furthermore, you must have documented experience in electron microscopy, as well as sample preparation of various types of biochemical samples and biological material for microscopy. You must be creative and problem-solving. Social competence, personal motivation and collaborative skills will be crucial to succeed in the role of project assistant.

Experience in structural biology, data analysis, 3D image reconstruction and compiling presentations and reports is advantageous.
