The Department of Applied Physics and Electronics has around 100 employees and is responsible for educational programs in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, construction technology, as well as electronics and computer technology. Our research and postgraduate education are mainly focused on the areas of applied physics, energy technology, and applied electronics. We are now looking for an Associate professor in Energy Technology with a focus on Sustainable Development.
The holder of this position is expected to take responsibility for teaching both existing and new courses. Primarily, the holder will be responsible for the subject area of Sustainable Development for Engineers, which includes complex sustainability challenges and sustainability aspects from an individual to a global perspective.
Other courses and relevant programs at the department may also be considered. Part of the work also involves collaborating with the surrounding society to ensure that teaching is closely linked to industry developments. Teaching at the advanced level is also expected to have a strong research connection. The applicant is also expected, when possible, to participate in existing research activities related to the subject area.
According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person shall be qualified for appointment as Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor if he or she within an area has demonstrated educational expertise and holds a doctorate or has attained equivalent academic competence or other professional skills relevant with regard to the subject area of the appointment.
Documented experience in teaching within the subject area is required.
The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor/senior lecturer shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of scientific expertise.
In the recruitment process, the weighting of qualifications will be as follows: Pedagogical skills (3), Scientific skills (2). In addition, the degree of administrative and other skills, as well as other qualifications relevant to the duties included in the position, will be considered (1).
Scientific expertise shall be demonstrated through independent scientific productivity. The criteria for assessment are:
International publications in well-renowned journals are given great importance.
The scientific subject area pertains to energy technology with a focus on sustainability.
The pedagogical expertise for employment as associate professor should be demonstrated by documented experience of teaching with a scientific foundation at university level. The criteria for evaluation are:
Pedagogical expertise can be attained through education in university pedagogy, other education of relevance for teaching at a university level or documented and proven experience teaching at the university level.
The Associate Professor's pedagogical expertise should be within the subject area of Sustainable Development for Engineers, which includes complex sustainability challenges and sustainability aspects from an individual to a global perspective.
A general basis for assessment for all teaching categories is both good cooperative skills and the expertise and suitability in general required to complete the work duties satisfactorily.
Administrative skills should pertain to the ability to develop the subject area, as well as the ability to create collaboration between academia and industry, both larger and smaller companies. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society will be assessed based on the applicant's documented experience of collaboration with the business sector, interdisciplinary partners, and the ability to inform about research and development work.
In addition to a very good ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, it is also meritorious to be able to communicate in Swedish, as much of the teaching and contacts with the business sector take place in Swedish.
It is of great importance that the applicant has good cooperation skills, initiative, and demonstrates a high degree of independence.
