Umeå University, Faculty of Science and Technology

Umeå University is one of Sweden’s largest higher education institutions with over 37,000 students and about 4,700 employees. The University offers a diversity of high-quality education and world-leading research in several fields. Notably, the groundbreaking discovery of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing tool, which was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was made here. At Umeå University, everything is close. Our cohesive campuses make it easy to meet, work together and exchange knowledge, which promotes a dynamic and open culture.

The ongoing societal transformation and large green investments in northern Sweden create enormous opportunities and complex challenges. For Umeå University, conducting research about – and in the middle of – a society in transition is key. We also take pride in delivering education to enable regions to expand quickly and sustainably. In fact, the future is made here.

Assignments
The Welcome Officer works with sharing relevant information and making new students feel welcome before coming to Umeå Institute of Design (UID), by keeping in touch with them through e-mail and eventually also social media during summer. The Welcome Officer also "hosts" the new students when they arrive in Umeå, meeting them at UID the week before the start of term, and takes active part in planning and carrying out the welcome activities in relation to the Orientation course that is organized by Umeå University (in August).

The main task is to be available and supportive to the new UID-students by regularly checking and replying to questions they ask via the service mailbox. Examples could be questions regarding life in Umeå, housing, insurances, visas, etc. UID provides basic information for you to handle this. You will also be the liaison for any questions or issues of very urgent and important nature that might arise on the new students' side, and you can in case of emergency then contact designated UID staff to inform them so that they can handle these issues.

Qualification
You must be admitted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level at Umeå Institute of Design.

Terms
You will be paid based on your level of education which means between 157-173 SEK/h (based on UID remuneration guidelines for students). Work is estimated to 50 hours during the period June- August. You could manage most of these tasks digitally - but you do need to be in Umeå for the Orientation Course week, before the autumn term starts.

If you have questions contact Erica Fjällström, HR-coordinator: erica.fjallstrom@umu.se
