UmArts and Umeå School of Architecture are hiring up to two teaching Assistants to support the exciting work of the UmArts research production team during the fall and spring semester of 2024/2025. Our goal is to create a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, so students across the Arts Campus departments and within the Department of Creative Studies are eligible and encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 19 April, 2024.

Job decription

As a teaching assistant within research production and communications, you will work in coordination with the UmArts leadership and Research Coordinators with various tasks related to producing research projects, seminars and events, marketing and communications. For example, working with researchers to install and communicate their projects, working with the UmArts team to communicate the program and to guard exhibitions open to the public. Evening and weekend work may be required. See www.umarts.se for the program of activities.

Other tasks and duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

To be eligible to apply for the positions you should:

• Be a student in year 2-4 at: Umeå School of Architecture, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå Institute of Design or the Department of Creative Studies in Education.
• Have an interest in developing your knowledge and skills in the area of practice-based research project development, marketing and communications.
• Have a good understanding of social media channels such as Instagram and Facebook.
• Have the ability to take initiative and work independently. 

Experience in planning and organising events, designing and/or making temporary exhibition structures and environments are considered an advantage. Experience in working with public events and/or in the academic context is also an advantage. 

Terms of Employment

As a Teaching Assistant, you are employed by Umeå University. The positions are 20% of full-time and span across the the fall semester of 2024 and the spring semester of 2025. The start date is 1 September, 2024 or as agreed.

The UmArts Research Centre for Architecture, Design and the Arts is based at the Arts Campus and also works with the Department for Creative Studies at the main campus. The centre aims to create an exciting interdisciplinary arts research environment in the visual arts, architecture, design, curatorial and creative studies in partnership with Bildmuseet and within the regional context of Northern Sweden as well as nationally and internationally. UmArts runs a programme of public research events, thematic working groups alongside staff research projects and a team of new post-doctoral researchers.
