The Department of Food, Nutrition and Culinary Science is looking for a project assistant. The position is a fixed-term employment for 12 months and full time (100%) with access on 1 February 2024 or according to agreement. The deadline for applications is 3 January, 2024.

The Department of food nutrition and culinary science is seeking a project assistant to support the day-to-day work of the consumer studies within two EU funded projects HealthFerm and Locality. HealthFerm is investigating innovative pulse and cereal-based food fermentations together with the health effects and consumer perception of novel fermented foods. Locality has as goal to create sustainable and circular products from the algae value chain. As part of those projects, the project assistant will contribute with their interests and skills to the administration, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Main tasks

The Department of Food, Nutrition and Culinary Science leads the Consumer Work Package within HealthFerm project and the consumer tasks within the Locality project. As project assistant, you will assist with a wide range of tasks and activities within the scope of the consumer studies. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting the Grant Holder at the department with the administration of the projects and provide support in other relevant tasks when necessary. That could for example include working with the design and testing of questionnaires, the supervision of data collection, literature reviews, report writing, production of visual communication material, organizing meetings, lectures, conferences and some teaching related administration. In addition, other administrative tasks may occur. The position requires some travelling since you will participate in national and international project meetings on behalf of Umeå University.

Qualifications

You have at least a Master’s degree in a field related to food, nutrition, sensory, consumer/marketing or other adjacent fields. 

You need to have good experience of working in the Office package, such as PowerPoint, Word and Excel. You should also have good experience and knowledge in statistical software, and creative design to display data and present results in a summarized way both in writing and orally.

Since all communication with project partners are in English, you need to have good oral and written communication skills in English. Swedish knowledge is desirable, and proficiency will be considered an asset.

You should have documented knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative methods, while documented experience (e.g. MSc thesis, published paper or conference abstract) of applying any of these methods will be an asset.

Other desirable qualifications

Documented experience with consumer questionnaire design and questionnaire-based data collection will be considered an asset. 

You are goal-oriented, creative and meticulous in your work. You have the ability to structure and organize your work. The work requires that you have a good ability to work independently and have good cooperation skills as you will collaborate with colleagues and other international research teams.

Conditions of employment

The position is full-time and limited to twelve months. Starting date is 1 february, 2024 or according to agreement. The place of employment is Umeå.
