The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.
The Department of Odontology at Umeå University consists of about 70 employees, and we conduct teaching in the dentist program, the dental hygienist program and the dental technician program as well as dental research.
We are now looking for a first research engineer for one of our research groups in Dental Material Science. The employment is 75 % for 4 months, with starting of 15 August 2023, or according to agreement. The application deadline is 25 May 2023.
You will be part of a project where we are working on developing dental related biomaterials. The goal of our project is to be able to synthesize dental related biomaterials that are antibacterial and provides increased remineralization of the tooth.
The main tasks include synthesis of polymer-based biomaterials, biocompatibility tests and material characterizations. Furthermore, the employment includes basic tasks in laboratory activities such as maintenance of research equipment.
We are looking for you who have a PhD in Dental Material Sciences or equivalent disciplines. Preferably to have experiences related to the synthesis and testing of dental materials and understand the relevant testing standards and necessary testing methods.
· Experiences on synthesizing and processing of polymer-based biomaterials.
· Hands on experiences on biocompatibility test, cellular proliferation, toxicology test.
· Knowledge and technical skills in anti-bacterial studies.
· Previous experience in material characterization using SEM and FTIR.
· Good organizational skills and ability to compile data.
· Demonstrated good skills in both written and spoken English.
