We are looking for a senior research assistant within the research project Beyond winners and losers: Regional variations of peace in Sri Lanka’s war victory (REGIOPEACE). The extent of the employment is 40 %. The time period is 10 months, starting 1 September 2023, or as agreed.

Main work assignments

Work assignments primarily include data collection in Sri Lanka. This includes research trips to different parts of the country and if necessary to independently work with recruitment of local research assistants within the project, for example for translation during interviews. Participation in planning and development of methods for collecting data with the research team, as well as participation in analysis of data, will also be included in the work assignments.

The employee will work within the research project Beyond winners and losers: Regional variations of peace in Sri Lanka’s war victory (REGIOPEACE) financed by The Swedish Research Council. Qualifications

Eligibility for employment is restricted to applicants with a doctoral degree in peace and conflict studies, political science or other relevant subject, or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree.

We are looking for a candidate in or outside of Sri Lanka who has in-depth knowledge of conflicts and peace processes in the country. You should have documented experience from working with these questions including conducting fieldwork in Sri Lanka. Good ability of qualitative data collection and documentation is a requirement. Proficiency in spoken and written English is also a requirement.

A broad network of contacts in Sri Lanka, preferably also in different conflict-affected areas, is an advantage. The ability to conduct research independently and the ability to collaborate are important skills.
