We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our new research laboratory Stat4Reg (www.stat4reg.se), where we are devoted at developing novel statistical methods for the analysis of large databases linking health and socio-economic registers.
Research
Stat4Reg, located at the Department of Statistics, Umeå School of Business and Economics, is dedicated at developing statistical methods and software for the analysis of large micro-databases (record linkage data). A research theme that we are now developing concerns the study of life trajectories (life course studies). Life trajectories within different social and health domains can be defined and observed for the whole population thanks to the availability in the Nordic countries of record linkage register data. Studies of life trajectories are, however, in their infancy, and there is an urgent need for relevant methods.
Position description
The successful candidate for this postdoc position is expected to work at developing methods for life trajectory data, in collaboration with the Lab leader Xavier de Luna. In order to make the methods relevant for empirical scientists, the successful candidate is also expected to participate in the multidisciplinary research program “Paths to Healthy and Active Ageing” based on population wide health and socio-economic micro-data. The Umeå SIMSAM Lab data will also be available to test the methods developed. We are looking for a person who can both work independently and within research groups. This is a two year position, with starting date August 1, 2015. Expected outcomes for this two year postdoc include publications in leading statistical journals, R packages implementing the developed methods, as well as scientific publications through active participation in multidisciplinary research teams.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD in statistics (or related area) not more than 3 years old. Experience related to the analysis of: life trajectories (longitudinal data, functional data, etc.) and/or large data sets is desirable. Experience in building packages in R is also a merit. Excellent written and spoken English is a requirement.
