We are advertising for a Senior Research Engineer, with placement at the Department for Ecology and Environmental Science at Umeå University, who will work with a literature review and database construction relating to terrestrial ecology and carbon cycling. Employment is on part time (50%) and time limited to 6 months. Position begins April 15th, 2023 or according to agreement. Last day of application is March 10th, 2023.
Work duties
The work involves exploring and researching scientific literature thoroughly from a wide field, identify and collating relevant articles, transferring critical data from these articles into a standardized database. The project is a collaboration between Umeå University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, including senior scientists, postdoctoral researchers and diverse societal stakeholders. The conducted work will support the wider scientific project by providing a broader theoretical background supported by the database to provide scientific context to the planned measurements and fieldwork.
Qualifications
The qualified candidate has a PhD in ecology, physical geography or closely related discipline and is a careful, thorough and, enthusiastic person. The advanced level of scientific competence is essential to critically review available literature. Experience in scientific writing, data analysis and statistical analysis are essential, as are excellent written and oral English skills.
Strong merits would be an advanced scientific background in terrestrial biogeochemical cycling, plant/soil ecology and plant-soil interactions, and experience of scientific review and meta-analysis.
