The department of Statistics at the Umeå School of Business, Economics and Statistics (USBE), is recruiting one or more full-time senior university lecturers in Statistics and Data Science. Welcome with your application at latest January 2, 2023.

Work description
The position involves teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels in statistics. The position also includes research to an extent determined by available resources. Therefore, you are expected to apply for external research funding. Besides teaching and research responsibilities, you are also expected to participate in administrative tasks within the department and at the faculty of social science. The position involves teaching and administrative tasks that require understanding and use of the Swedish language.

Qualification requirements  
According to chapter 4, section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and Employment regulations for teachers at Umeå University (dnr FS 1.1-129-22), a person is qualified for appointment as senior lecturer if he or she has demonstrated educational expertise and holds a doctorate or has attained equivalent academic competence or other professional skills relevant with regards to the subject area of the appointment. The qualification refers to the subject area of statistics and data science or equivalent.

Assessment criteria and weighing between the assessment criteria
Assessment criteria include the degree of scientific, pedagogical, administrative and other skills relevant to the subject area and responsibilities of the position, represent the evaluation criteria in the selection of the candidate. When weighing the various criteria, equal weights will be given to scientific skills and pedagogical skills. Thereafter comes the degree of administrative skills, and other skills of relevance to the position. If equivalent knowledge is invoked, an account of what is invoked as equivalent must be made.

Scientific skill must be demonstrated in the subject area of statistics and data science. There, development of computer-intensive methods, algorithms for machine learning, and applications on large databases (Big data) are particularly meritorious. The degree of scientific skill is primarily assessed on the basis of scientific works published in internationally distributed scientific journals that apply a so-called peer-review system. The assessment of scientific skill takes particular account of publications and research activities during the last five years in accordance with the USBE´s quality system. In the assessment, the department applies current quality lists from Web of Science, as well as the so-called Norwegian list. Secondly, the scientific skill is assessed based on a two-year research plan. Documented ability to obtain research funding is particularly meritorious. 

Pedagogical skills must relate to the subject area of statistics and data science. Demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate and advanced level, supervision, and documented experience of pedagogical development work are particularly meritorious. Higher education pedagogical education is meritorious. Ability to teach in Swedish is particularly meritorious. Experience of teaching at postgraduate level and supervision of doctoral students is meritorious. 

Administrative skills are meritorious and refer partly to the ability to independently organize educational activities, as well as the ability to lead development and quality work in undergraduate education, postgraduate education and research within the subject area of the position.

When assessing other skills, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. You must have good collaboration skills and be able to work focused, flexible and proactive. The applicant must also take full responsibility for their duties and be able to contribute to a good research and teaching environment. The work also requires a good ability to cooperate and collaborate with others both within and outside Umeå University and participation in the work of obtaining financial resources for research.
