We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher in marine microbiology that will investigate prokaryotic maintenance metabolism at Arctic conditions. Applied methods include electron microscopy, omics, respiration measurements, statistical analysis of data and authorship of scientific articles. It is a full-time position limited to 2 years. Start date is January 1st, 2023. Application deadline is November 15th, 2022.

Task assignment
The holder will participate in a research project to investigate prokaryotic maintenance respiration and associated activities. The results shall be scientifically evaluated and published in peer-reviewed journals. Tasks include analysing marine samples for prokaryotic morphology and formation of outer membrane vesicles by applying electron microscopy. Metagenomic and transcriptomic analyses will target evidence for maintenance activities and associated respiration. Measurements related to cold adaptation and osmoregulation are planned. The measurements will be quality assured and subject to statistical analysis. Manuscripts for peer-review international scientific journals will be composed.

Postdoctoral fellows who are to teach or supervise must have taken relevant courses in teaching and learning in higher education.

A philosophy doctorate degree in microbiology is required.

Experience of electron microscopy, prokaryotic omics analyses, bioinformatics and polar research is meritorious. Knowledge of epifluorescence microscopy using image analysis, isotope techniques for in situ growth rates and sensor-based respiration measurements is advantageous. The applicant should be well acquainted with statistical software (e.g., SPSS) and ANOVA analysis.

Application
The application shall be written in English (preferably) or Swedish and include the documents below:

  • Cover letter presenting yourself with a motivation to apply for the position
