The Department of Informatics conducts research and education with a focus on digitization of society, organizations and everyday life. We are recruiting a professor who can actively contribute to and develop the department's educational and research activities in this area. Our research addresses areas such as digital transformation, user experience, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, internet of things and materiality. In our studies of digitalization, we move in many contexts such as the public sector, media, games, entertainment, finance companies, entrepreneurship, IT companies, manufacturing industry and trade. In terms of education, we are constantly developing our courses and educational programs and our department is characterized by commitment, cooperation and pride. Welcome!

The assignment

The assignment as a professor in informatics is leading and conducting research, teaching, supervision and collaboration with the rest of society. The professor is expected to contribute to the department's research environment by initiating, leading and developing research and education. For example, actively working for external funding of the department's research and research education, initiating and participating in the planning of research projects and working strategically and actively with applications for external research funding. The assignment also include distributing research nationally and internationally through publications and by developing and deepening contacts in international research networks.

To contribute to the goals of the Department, the professor will lead research and develop the research environment at the Department with a focus on the digitalization of society. This is done by the professor conducting own research, collaborating with other researchers internally and externally, actively developing the department and teaching and supervising. As a professor in informatics, you are expected to contribute to pedagogical development by teaching and supervise at undergraduate, advanced and research education level.

The employment

The position is a permanent full-time position located at the Department of Informatics at Umeå University. Starting date is by agreement. The place of employment is Umeå and active participation in the department's various activities is expected.

Eligiblility

Eligible to be employed as a professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skills according to 4th Cap, Section 3§ of the Higher Education Ordinance and the Employment Ordinance for teachers at Umeå University, in the subject of informatics.

Eligibility criteria

As a basis for assessment for a position as a professor shall be the degree of such skill that is a requirement for eligibility for employment. In addition, other assessment criteria is administrative skills and the ability to collaborate with others.

Research skills refer to independent research work, ability to plan and lead research and research activities, ability to communicate research with the surrounding society, ability to obtain research funding in competition with other researchers, documented national and international research collaboration and high-quality international publications. Research skill is also demonstrated through leadership in research projects and successful supervision.

Pedagogical skills refer to documented experience of planning, implementation, examination, and evaluation of research-based teaching and demonstrated a reflective approach to student learning and one’s own teaching role. It is also reflected through the contribution of the broader pedagogical development at the department. Pedagogical skills also refer to participation in research education activities, such as doctoral student supervision and participation in the developing and implementation of courses and seminars at all levels.

Administrative skills mean the ability to develop and lead activities, the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work. Ability to collaborate refers, among other things, to formulating, planning and leading and participating in projects that include several people, as well as participation in both research-joint and other department activities.

Weighting of assessment criteria

In the selection of candidates, emphasis will primarily be put on the degree of research expertise. Great emphasis must also be placed on pedagogical and administrative skills.

When assessing research skill, emphasis is also placed on collaboration with external partners and national / international research networks with which one collaborates in one's research.

When assessing the pedagogical skills, consideration will be given to the development, planning and implementation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination, where special emphasis shall be placed on experience of supervision in all stages of postgraduate education.

When assessing administrative skills, emphasis is placed on skills to lead and develop research activites and staff, experience of positions of managment at departmental, faculty or university level. Great emphasis is placed on the ability to collaborate, initiative and commitment to develop the department.
