We are looking for a senior research engineer in marine microbiology that will analyse bacteria by electron microscopy, statistical analysis of data and write scientific articles in Arctic microbiology. It is a full-time position limited to 3 months. Start date is October 1st, 2022 or according to agreement. Application deadline is May 27th, 2022.
Task assignment
The holder will participate in research project to investigate prokaryotic maintenance respiration and associated activities. The results shall be scientifically evaluated and published in peer-reviewed journals. Tasks include analysing sea water samples for prokaryotic morphology by electron microscopy, epifluorescence microscopy, determining process rates by radioisotope assays, and evaluate metagenomic and transcriptomic information. The measurements will be quality assured and subject to statistical analysis. A scientific manuscript will be written including informative figures and tables.
Competence requirements
A doctoral degree in microbiology is required. In addition, at least one year of post-doctoral research within the area of prokaryote morphology, taxonomy, and metabolism.
Experience of electron microscopy using negative staining, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy is a requirement. The holder should also have worked with epifluorescence microscopy using image analysis by the Labmicrobe software. Good knowledge in prokaryotic growth rate measurements, taxonomy and metagenomics are further valued. The applicant should be well acquainted with statistical software (e.g. SPSS) and ANOVA analysis.
