Umeå School of Architecture (UMA) has open positions as teaching assistants in three different functions; our workshop, our communication department and as support for the programme director for the Fall term of 2022 and Spring term of 2023

Tasks

The work as a teaching assistant means that you are hired by Umeå university and work either in the workshop or with communication at UMA. Other assignments in addition to this can be as a contact assistant for the Architect program to participate in activities towards primary and secondary school and to assist the program director with planning and follow-up of program-related tasks.

The tasks in the workshop consist of

  • Different kinds of service and maintenance jobs
  • Control and maintenance of equipment for digital production (laser, 3D-printers, cutting machines)
  • Control and maintenance of workshop machines in regards to safety and function
  • Order and cleaning of the workshop premises
  • Instruct other students in different techniques, if there is time
  • Keep material accessible 
  • Lock and close the workshop if necessary
  •  Support to technicians

The tasks within communication consist of

  • Marketing
  • Work with the school yearbook

The tasks as support for the programme director consist of

  • Receive study visits at UMA 
  • Contacts with the students on the program
  • Planning work of the program
  • Quality follow-up of the education

Qualifications

To apply for the positions you should

  • Be a student in the Architecture Programme, year 2-5 or Master’s Programme in Architecture and Urban Design at Umeå School of Architecture
  • Have good social skills and interest in either the workshop tasks described above, or marketing of the architecture education
  • For the work in the workshop, show interest in digital production and of the workshop machines
  • For the work in communication, be well acquainted with social media platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook. Knowledge in graphic design and experience in software such as Adobe Creative Suite is a merit

Terms

The positions are 10% of full time during the Fall semester of 2022 and the Spring semester of 2023, with start on August 1, 2022 or according to agreement. A short introduction and meeting with this year’s teaching assistants will also be held in June. You will be introduced and trained in your duties by experiences staff at UMA.

The selection among the applicants is made based on the applicant’s merits, suitability and experience of similar tasks.
