These post-doctoral researchers will have the opportunity to produce a range of research outputs including open access research articles, visual arts practice, prototyping, writing, exhibition-making, architectural, urban and digital interventions, or performance, which shall drive the role of art and societal development forward.  The post-docs will also play an active role in the UmArts programme, contributing to social events and annual symposia, leading research workshops and reading groups. Each post doc will work independently on their own creative project with support from supervisors in their two departments and the Director of UmArts.

Scope of research

This UmArts artistic research post-doctoral position will be focused on interdisciplinary art and architecture, based at Umeå School of Architecture (UMA), in partnership with the Bildmuseet museum of contemporary art. The broad aim of this artistic research post-doctoral position is to develop new critical frameworks for investigating spatial politics. We welcome proposals for interdisciplinary art and architecture research practices that generate a critical and creative discourse on the politics of space, including: territorial divisions, decolonisation, social cohesion, sustainability and resilience, which have relationships to northern Scandinavia. Proposals can develop new ways of inhabiting through the re-use, adaptation and occupation of space. The post-doctoral researcher will be supervised by researchers at UMA and a curator at Bildmuseet, with support from the Director of UmArts.

If you would like to discuss a research proposal please contact Ele Carpenter ele.carpenter@umu.se
