Are you interested in animal behavior and how it might be affected by human pollution? Are you interested in being an active part in the development of the next generation of sound-based monitoring tools? Then you should apply for this four yearlong PhD-position in Umeå. During the doctoral education you will study how common contaminants may affect invertebrates in soil and water. You will be part of a supportive environment with creative researchers from different scientific backgrounds that all shares an interest for finding out to what extent emerging contaminants might affect terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

 

Admission requirements

The recruitment procedure for the position is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance. Prerequisites include 240 ECTS credits (Swe. högskolepoäng) of higher education studies of which 60 should be on an advanced level (Master level), or equivalent competence.

To fulfil the specific entry requirements for doctoral studies in Environmental Science the applicant should have approved courses in subject relevant for this subject of at least 120 ECTS credits (2 years). At least one course at second-cycle level in a subject that is central to the doctoral student's planned specialisation shall have been completed, as well an independent piece of work (degree project) with relevant specialization of at least 15 credits.The requirements should be met at the time of acceptance to doctoral studies.

The candidate should have an academic background in Ecotoxicology, Ecology, Engineering or from similar fields. For this position, we are looking for a creative person that can find it stimulating to working interdisciplinary.

Experience with working with animal behavior is considered as a merit. In similar, experience with acoustic methods is also considered a merit.

 

Terms for the employment

The employment is expected to result in a doctoral degree and the main assignment for the doctoral student is thus to be part of the research education, which includes participation in the described research project but also to take relevant courses. Teaching and other departmental work (up to a maximum of 20%) can be included. The employment is limited to four years at full time or up to five years if teaching and other departmental work is performed. The salary is fixed according to the established salary level for doctoral students.
