The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.
The Department of community medicine and rehabilitation comprises five units; Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Geriatrics, Sports medicine and Rehabilitation medicine, all involved in teaching, research and collaboration with society and health care.
We are currently looking for a postdoc focusing on a project on high-intensity training among older people. The appointment is placed in Umeå and is full time for two years. Start date by agreement.
Description
The announced position is a part of the Umeå HIT Study, an interdisciplinary study. The first phase of the study was a randomized controlled study to determine the feasibility and effects of High-Intensity Training on muscle, brain, cardiovascular, and psychological function among physically inactive older people. The HIT-intervention, that consisted of 6-second regulated cycling sprints, was compared to moderate intensity continuous training. All data are collected and the first preliminary analyses are performed. The announced postdoctoral position is mainly related to the second phase of the Umeå HIT study. In this phase, the intervention will be adapted and implemented in real life setting, in co-creation with seniors and senior organizations. The aim of the second phase is to reach large groups of older individuals. Also work with already collected data from the first phase of the study could be included during this appointment.
Qualification requirements and work tasks
Candidates must hold a University degree equivalent to a European University PhD in Medical Sciences or of other relevant subjects. Candidates with a PhD degree less than three years old will be considered first. We are looking for a candidate with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team of junior and senior researchers from various disciplines. Supervision of students could be included. The appointment includes planning and performance of research within the project, mainly data collection, analyzing and reporting of results. It is desirable with clinical and/or research experiences in exercise training and exercise performance testing.
Other desirable requirements
Experiences of quantitative data analyses is considered an additional qualification and knowledge of behavior change theories. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are desirable. Also excellent verbal and written Swedish communication skills are a requirement, since interaction with participants in the study is planned to be included in the work.
