The ongoing societal transformation and large green investments in northern Sweden create enormous opportunities and complex challenges. The Department of Geography seeks applications for 2 postdoc positions in human geography. The department has a broad research profile, both with regards to theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches. Examples of research themes are labour supply, tourism, regional development, interregional migration, international migration, second homes, rural conditions, urban dynamics and adaptation to climate change.

The project and duties

Your work as a post-doc involves qualified research work in the subject of human geography where you will develop research with geographical perspectives on the ongoing re-industrialization of northern Sweden through the investments often referred to as part of a sustainable transition through green technology. The large industrial investments that are currently underway in several locations in northern Sweden are expected to pose major challenges in terms of conflicts of interest regarding natural resources and energy, but also in regard to planning as well as skills supply, not only in the affected locations but also for adjacent places. The position offers an opportunity to develop a research project within the framework of this theme based on different theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches. The research project could potentially focus on various aspects of this development that concern sustainability transitions, international and national labour migration, work, housing, leisure or gender equality, but could also be about, for example, the image of Norrland and how it affects and is affected by this development.
