The Department of Sociology at Umeå University seeks applications for a project assistant. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the project The effects of unemployment on health of family members (HEALFAM) financed by the European Research Council (ERC) and led by associate professor Anna Baranowska-Rataj.

The employment contract is full time for 6 months.

The aim of the HEALFAM project is to examine how losing a job affects health outcomes of partners, children and elderly parents of the unemployed and whether the magnitudes of these influences differ across families and societies. Our project team assesses the consequences of unemployment for family members taking a multi-actor perspective and international comparative approach.

The project assistant will be involved specifically in the component of HEALFAM project, which investigates the impact of unemployment from intergenerational perspective, using data from large scale surveys such as Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) data.

The project assistant will be expected to carry out the work in Umeå and to participate in common departmental activities.

Position requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with a master's degree in sociology or equivalent and experience in the research area described above. Furthermore, documented experience of analysis of international and / or longitudinal survey data using advanced statistical methods (such as multilevel models, panel data models) is required. The job position requires excellent speaking and writing skills in English and good co-operation skills. Experience of presenting research results in an international research environment, such as international conferences, is a strong advantage.
