Department of Applied Physics and Electronics has 100 staff members that conduct research within the subject areas of energy technology, applied electronics and system technology. We are now inviting applicants for a position as a university lecturer in electronic engineering. The application deadline is on 17 September 2021.

Duties

The holder of the position is expected to take responsibility for both teaching of existing and new courses, mainly focuses on control technology, telecommunications and data communication and supervision of student degree projects at program of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Also other courses and relevant education programs at the department may be considered. Part of the work is also about collaborating with the society in order to keep education closely linked to the development of the industry. The teaching on advanced level is also expected to have a good research connection. If the opportunity is given, the applicant is expected to take part in existing research activities related to the subject area.

Eligibility requirements

According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person shall be qualified for appointment as Associate Professor if he or she within an area has demonstrated educational expertise and holds a doctorate or has attained equivalent academic competence or other professional skills relevant with regard to the subject area of the appointment.

A high level of proficiency in both spoken and written English is a requirement.

Documented experience of teaching in engineering programs in electronics (at least the basic level) is a requirement

Assessment criteria

The degree of pedagogical expertise in the subject area and scientific expertise shall apply as assessment criteria for employment. In addition, the degree of administrative skill and other skills of importance shall apply with respect to the subject matter of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment. Furthermore, the degree of skill to develop and lead activities and staff at the university must be taken into account, as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work.

Upon appointment, the weighting of merits will be s follows: Pedagogical expertise (3). Scientific expertise (2). In addition, the degree of administrative and other skills, as well as other qualifications, relevant to the duties included in the employment shall be taken into account (1).

Scientific expertise

Scientific expertise shall be demonstrated through independent scientific productivity. The criteria for assessment are:

• Breadth and depth of research – quality and scope
• originality of research
• productivity
• contributions to the international research community
• assignments within the research community
• the ability to competitively obtain external research funding
• collaboration with the surrounding society

Experience with optimization search methods such as dynamic programming and deflectometry-based analysis in the programming languages MatLab and C / C ++ are meritorious.

Experience of working with object detection and localization for deflectometry analysis is meritorious.

 Pedagogical expertise

 The pedagogcial expertise for employment as associate professor should be demonstrated by documented experience of teaching with scientific foundation at university level. The criteria for evaluation are:

• an ability to plan, implement and evaluate teaching and an ability to supervise and examine students at every level of education
• an ability to vary teaching methods and examination formats in relation to anticipated study results and the nature of the subject
• experience of collaboration with the surrounding society in planning and implementation of education
• participation in the development of learning environments, teaching aids and study resources
• a reflective approach to student learning and one’s own role as a teacher

Pedagogical expertise can be attained through education in university pedagogy, other education of relevance for teaching at a university level or documented and proven experience teaching at the university level.

Teaching experience related to the specialization signal processing or equivalent with a specialization

towards image processing and pattern recognition is meritorious.

Further qualifications

It is of great importance that the applicant has a good ability to cooperate and shows a high degree of independence.

The employment is limited in time to 12 months full-time with the start date according to agreement.
