The Department of Radiation Sciences is, in terms of research, a dynamic and internationally successful environment in the fields of diagnostic radiology, oncology, cognitive neuroscience, radiation physics and bio-medical engineering. The department belongs to the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University.

We are currently looking for a postdoc focusing on a project on high-intensity training among older people. The project is performed within Umeå Center for Functional Brain Imaging (UFBI) and is a collaborative project between Department of Radiation sciences and Department of Community medicine and Rehabilitation. The position is placed in Umeå and is full time for two years. Start date October 1, or by agreement.

Description

The announced position is a part of the Umeå HIT Study, an interdisciplinary study. The first phase of the study was a randomized controlled study to determine the feasibility and effects of a novel concept of supramaximal High-Intensity Training on muscle, brain, cardiovascular, and psychological function among physically inactive older people. All data for this first phase is collected. The second phase will be focusing on implementing the training method in real life setting, in collaboration with seniors, training facilities, and senior organizations. We are looking for a candidate with an interest in both analyzing existing structural and functional MRI data as well as working on the second phase, the implementation of the training program.

Qualification requirements

Candidates must hold a University degree equivalent to a European University PhD in Medical Sciences, cognitive neuroscience, psychology or of other relevant subjects. Candidates with a PhD degree less than three years old will be considered first. In normal case the doctorate exam should have been acquired within three years prior the last day for application to this position unless special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave or clinical practice or appointments of trust in trade union organizations.

We are looking for a candidate with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team of junior and senior researchers from various disciplines. The appointment includes planning and performance of research within the project, mainly data collection, analyzing and reporting of results. It is desirable with clinical and/or research experiences in neuropsychological testing.

Other desirable requirements

Experiences of MR data analyses is considered an additional qualification. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are desirable. Also, excellent verbal and written Swedish communication skills are a merit, since interaction with participants in the study will be included in the work.
