The unit of economic history is now looking for a postdoctoral fellow. The employment is a fixed-term employment of two years starting in the autumn of 2021 or by agreement.

Main duties
As a postdoctoral fellow, your work will be focused on research and publishing. You'll be part of the department's research work where you work closely with researchers at the unit. The main duties will include work within your own research project. Collaboration with the surrounding society, participation in the department's general development work and meeting activities as well as some teaching are also included in the duties.

About the employment
The employment is a fixed-term employment full-time (100%) from autumn of 2021 for two years at the unit for economic history, Umeå University. The location is Umeå and we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who will be part of our daily activities at the unit. The employment is financed by faculty funds. The position may include teaching of the equivalent of a maximum of 20%.

Qulifications and assessment criteria
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral fellow, an individual must have completed a doctoral degree in economic history, or equivalent, by defending a thesis on a economic historical subject matter. Initially, those who have been awarded their degree no more than three years before the deadline for applications will be considered. If special reasons exist, consideration may be given to an applicant who was awarded their degree at an earlier date. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions or other similar circumstances. Postdoctoral fellows who are to teach or supervise shall have relevant training in teaching and learning in higher education.

When assessing applicants, particular consideration will be given to the ability to conduct independent research in economic history. This ability is demonstrated and documented through the scientific quality and economic historical relevance of the dissertation and other publications. We also add  importance to the applicant's research plan. Ability to participate in national and / or international research collaborations are also important. International experience is therefore taken into account. Although scholarly proficiency is the main requirement for employment, teaching skills in economic history are also assessed. The successful applicant should further have good abilities to communicate scientifically in English, in both speech and writing. Great emphasis is also placed on personal suitability.

• Copies of doctoral diplomas and other relevant diplomas and study extracts.
• A copy of your doctoral dissertation, as well as copies of a maximum of five relevant scientific publications that are not included or directly based on chapters or articles in the dissertation.
• The applicant is encouraged to name a maximum of two persons who can give recommendations, but we do not consider recommendation letters with the application

The Unit of Economic History
The unit of economic history is research-intensive and employs about 15 people: senior lecturers, technical/administrative staff and doctoral students. Our research is regularly published in Swedish and foreign journals and uses both quantitative and qualitative methods as important tools. Economic history has well-developed research collaborations at local, national and international level in the following areas: business history, environmental and energy history, financial history, economic growth and transformation, political economy and agricultural history.
