The Department of Food, Nutrition and Culinary Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral fellow. The position is a full-time post (100%) for a fixed term of two years, beginning by agreement. The deadline for applications is 16.08.2021.

Main duties
As a postdoctoral fellow, you are primarily expected to consolidate and further develop your research expertise. The main duties of the position are to conduct research associated with food, nutrition and culinary sciences, including publishing research results in scientific journals and applying for external research grants.

The position includes 80% research and 20% teaching and/or other departmental duties.

The position is based in Umeå and the successful candidate is expected to actively participate in the department’s activities.

Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University have been awarded a PhD or a degree awarded by a foreign higher education institution deemed to be equivalent to a Degree of Doctor of Food, Nutrition and Culinary Sciences, Culinary Arts or another subject of relevance to the specialisation. Initially, those who have been awarded their degree no more than three years before the deadline for applications will be considered. If special reasons exist, consideration may be given to an applicant who was awarded their degree at an earlier date. The successful candidate shall not have previously been appointed to a postdoctoral fellowship at Umeå University for more than one year within the same or a related subject area. Postdoctoral fellows who are to teach or supervise shall have relevant training in teaching and learning in higher education.

In assessing applicants, particular consideration will be given to research expertise. Previous publications in international scientific journals of relevance to the area of research are a strong qualification. Research expertise will also be assessed in terms of the quality of the submitted research plan. Practical experience of teaching, leadership, administration and project management also provides useful qualifications. Proven good ability to collaborate with other researchers is also a requirement, as is a good command of Swedish and/or English orally and in writing. When making the appointment, priority will be given to research plans that are clearly focused on food, nutrition and culinary sciences and that have a clear vision for how the planned research during the period of employment will contribute to strengthening research into food, nutrition and culinary sciences at Umeå University. The research specialisation should relate to one of the six profile areas at the department, cf.
