About the position
The purpose of the Wallenberg research arena for Media and Language (WARA Media and Language) is to build a world-class research community around Artificial Intelligence for Media and Language that cuts across scientific disciplines and industry segments. The main responsibilities of the announced position are to set up and manage a distributed environment for collaborative machine-learning (ML) projects. This involves collecting and curating data, providing ML workbenches, and running bench marking services. Since the current operational team has neither the time nor the necessary skillset, we are looking for 2 research engineers to help with this work, each at 50-100% of a full-time equivalent until the end of the year.

The project offers:

●       Interaction and exchange with industry ML teams and academic research groups in the area of Media and Language AI

●       Access to the computing infrastructure at WARA Common

●       Opportunities to publish scientific papers as author or co-author

●       The possibility to influence future state of affairs in Media and Language AI

Main tasks
Your primary tasks are to design, implement, and maintain a machine-learning platform for the WARA Media & Language research community. The platform will be hosted by WARA Common, a sister arena within the WASP framework. The work involves all aspects of developing the platform: Interviewing partners from both academy and industry, defining platform requirements, designing and realizing the system, managing datasets, bench marking, and facilitating users. The work also includes writing (academic) reports describing the project's results.

Qualifications
You need:

●      Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related area.

●      Experience of computer-science research

●      Experience of Linux-based system administration

●      Knowledge of virtualization, networking, and security

●      Programming experience, including shell & script

●      Written and verbal communication skills

Experience in any of the following is considered a merit:

●      Machine-learning, both practical experience and a theoretical background

●      Algorithmic and complexity analysis

●      Multimodal data analysis, or experience in some of the constituent areas such as language processing, image processing, etc.

Application
A complete application must contain:

●      A personal motivation letter describing why you are suitable for the advertised position

●      Curriculum Vitae (CV)

●      Copies of relevant diplomas

●      Other relevant information, such as documentation of software development experience, or publication list.

The application must be submitted via the Varbi e-recruitment system no later than 2021-06-15. Further information can be obtained from Johanna Björklund, 070 603 94 59, e-mail johanna.bjorklund@umu.se.
