The Department of Law at Umeå University has about 65 employees and our research cover many different areas of law. Research is conducted in smaller projects, focused on more distinct areas of law, as well as in larger, cross-disciplinary projects in collaboration with other academic disciplines and universities. We have a dynamic research environment that is expanding, and we are now looking for a number of postdoctoral researchers in an initiative to further develop the research conducted at the department.
The applicants are expected to plan and conduct research within a self-defined research project, but also to cooperate with other researchers at the Department of Law and in other academic disciplines.
The positions are two-year full-time positions starting June 1, 2021 or upon agreement. The positions consist of 20% teaching and 80% conducting research. The positions are placed at the Department of Law at Umeå University.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral researchers are those who by the day of appointment have received a doctoral degree or a foreign degree considered comparable to a doctoral degree. For the positions in question, the applicants shall have a doctoral degree in law or comparable scientific qualifications that are relevant to the research conducted at the Department of Law. Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application closing date. A candidate who has completed their degree prior to this may be considered for the position if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade unions, or similar circumstances.
We are looking for motivated and responsible candidates who wants both to develop as individual researchers and to contribute to the research at the Department of Law. When selecting among eligible applicants, special emphasis will be placed on documented research skills and the ability to conduct research, independently as well as in collaboration with others. Particular emphasis will also be placed on the scientific qualities of the proposed research project, taking into account its potential contribution to the field of science in question and to the Department of Law's research environment, as well as the feasibility of the project.
Teaching is included as part of the position and documented experience of teaching, on both basic and advanced levels, as well as completed pedagogical education are therefore relevant qualifications. However, because conducting independent research is the main responsibility of a postdoctoral researcher, research qualifications outweigh pedagogical qualifications when assessing eligible applicants.
