The Department of Radiation Sciences, Umeå University, is looking for a project assistant in the Nordic Daylight Research Program. The employment is 50% and with effect from 26 March 2021 or by agreement. Working hours are during the daytime. The place of work is at the Norrlands universitetssjukhus. 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This long-term Nordic Daylight Research project combines time-based monitoring of light exposure with physical activity (sleep-wake behaviour) using rest-activity trackers (actigraphy) in 3-year old children. The children’s behavior is continuously recorded at high resolution for a week under real-life conditions. The methods include actigraphic measurements that tell us exactly when and how much a person is physically active and inactive and the level of ambient light over several 24-hour cycles of varying daylength across the year.

The project is supported by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. We are looking for a dedicated person who will support us in our high throughput data production. 

DUTIES

We are looking for a project assistant who will work under the supervision of the PI and be involved in data collection, data management and administration. You will work with recording devises and transfer data into databases. You will also be the contact person for the participants’ guardians and act as the link between the study coordinator, the bicycle courier and the participants. The tasks include:

  • Preparation of study material including set-up of devices
  • Scan diary logs, printing actograms, enter data into data bases and archive information
  • Annotation of actograms and evaluation of data quality according to operation procedures
  • Testing calibration of devices, software and firmware updates and licenses
  • Adhere to all local and national regulations regarding the ethical responsibility

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in medical sciences or in an area of mathematical economics that the employer considers relevant based on the content of the work
  • Advanced A-levels: Grade A in mathematics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Competence in actometry or actigraphy
  • Evidence of organisational skills, detail-oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse groups of people
  • Strong follow through skills and ability to proactively identify and solve problems; demonstrated initiative is imperative

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Fine Motor and technical skills
  • Experience in light reception as a synchronizing factor for chronobiological applications
  • Understanding of probability, statistical and time series concepts
  • Documented acquired knowledge in scientific analytical techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally in English, and have the willingness to learn the basics of Swedish
