Ph.D. position in Business Administration, focusing on Entrepreneurship and Gender

Umeå School of Business, Economics, and Statistics (USBE), together with Umeå Center for Gender Studies, is searching for a Ph.D. student in Business Administration within Entrepreneurship focusing on equal opportunities, especially concerning gender and entrepreneurship. 
 
The doctoral student will work within the Business Administration department at USBE and will also belong to the Graduate School of Gender Studies at the Umeå Centre of Gender Studies. A Ph.D. student at the Graduate School of gender studies will take part in a unique and dynamic research environment, in which about 30 Ph.D. students are participating. Project description  
There are glaring biases and disparities within Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, meaning that people do not have equal opportunities to engage in entrepreneurial activities. The proposed doctoral research will investigate the biases and inequalities within Entrepreneurial Ecosystems that hinder gender equality. This research aims to create new knowledge in the field that will make Entrepreneurship more open, inclusive, and gender neutral.

As a Ph.D. student, you will take courses and do an independent research project. You are expected to contribute to the research environment through active participation in seminars, conferences, and other research activities that support your research and the research environment.

Requirements and qualifications 
To possess basic eligibility, the applicant should hold an advanced degree, have completed studies equivalent to at least 240 higher education credits, at least 60 of which at an advanced level, or in some other manner, have acquired skills that are equivalent to this requirement. To meet individual eligibility requirements, an applicant must have satisfactorily undertaken courses within Business Administration equivalent to at least 90 higher education credits, including an independent work (thesis/equiv.) worth at least 15 credits.

Selection among applicants that fulfill the formal requirements will be based on the applicant's perceived ability to succeed with the education, for example, considering the following:
1. previous academic results and ability to meet deadlines 
2. methodological and scientific maturity   
3. quality of research draft 
4. communicative skills, both orally and in writing   
5. ability to cooperate 
6. individual personal suitability

When considering the individual suitability, we will consider in particular: 
7. good analytical skills 
8. good skills in English and/or Swedish 
9. ambitions with the doctoral education and with work within USBE's unit of Business administration 

It is also additional merit to have taken courses aiming at the project's central concepts/areas, have documented ability to write scientifically, and competence and experience relating to gender issues/gender studies. Since research is done in collaboration with researchers in different disciplines, good collaboration skills are required.

Additional information 
Normally, the Ph.D. program amounts to four years of full-time studies. The Ph.D. position may also include part-time teaching (up to 20%). If so, the total time for the position is extended, corresponding to the teaching time.
