In 2013 Umeå University introduced a model for acquisition of educational qualification, this model was revised 2016-06-28. The aim of the model is to contribute to an ongoing improvement of quality by stimulating teachers to develop a great pedagogical competence and also stimulate departments to create an environment that is conducive to pedagogical development.

Umeå University’s model for acquisition of educational qualification is a two-step process, first to recognised university teacher and then to distinguished university teacher. The application for appointment as distinguished university teacher may only be submitted by teachers who have previously been appointed as a recognised university teacher.

The application can be submitted twice a year. Deadline for the application date is February 15, 2021.

Qualified to apply are those who hold a position as a teacher at Umeå University and have at least 5 years of teaching experience at a higher education institution, corresponding to at least two years of full-time teaching, and course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to more than 10 weeks study or 15 hp. The eligibility must be confirmed by a statement from the Head of Department.

The application must consist of:

• CV
• a statement from the Head of Department regarding eligibility (see above)
• for recognised university teacher: main text of maximum 8 pages, reference list excluded (4 criteria) and a maximum of 12 appendices
• for distinguished university teacher: main text of maximum 8 pages, reference list excluded (3 criteria) and a maximum of 12 appendices
