The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

The Department of Odontology harbors around 60 co-workers and educate dentists and conducts medical odontological research. We are recruiting a senior research engineer, full time for 2 years to one of our research groups.

About the research project
The research is translational, combining basic and clinical sciences in infection biology, for personalized oral and medical care. We are mapping genetic predictors for novel subtypes of dental caries based on host/human immunodeficiency and bacterial virulence, and developing novel diagnostic and preventive approaches to combat caries and chronic diseases. The project accordingly contains molecular biology, translational and clinical parts. We are recruiting a senior research engineer who independently can lead method development and large scale analyses of clinical samples at the genomic level, as well as design, perform and analyze molecular biology studies in the area of host-microbe interactions.

Work tasks
This position implies that you will:

-  Lead in house and ex house life science analyses of clinical samples using DNA-based techniques such as qPCR, TaqMan, array´s and sequencing of human and bacterial genes on a small and large scale level.

- Lead the handling and analyses of variables and data from sequencing and other sources at the level of databases, alone or in collaboration with a statician and/or bioinformatician.

-  Lead the work with databases and sample collection in stringent, rational and safe fashion.

-  lead the work with molecular biology analyses and studies in the area of host-microbe interactions, including, bacterial whole genome sequencing, recombinant protein expression as well as adhesion and adhesion-inhibition assays using cultured bacteria, host cells and tissue proteins.

- Culture and characterize our model bacteria.

Qualifications
For this position you need to have a doctoral degree within medical sciences or molecular biology. You have experience of molecular biology and molecular genetic analyses and you have worked with several DNA-based techniques, as well as experience of and competence in data handling and analyses and in leading and designing experimental work.

You are independent with a project leading and stringent personality. The work is dynamic, thus demanding a flexible personality and ability to co-operate. Great emphasis will be on personal suitability.

Other qualifications
Research experience beyond the doctoral degree and thus suitability for project-leading tasks and responsibilities is considered a strong merit. Experience of statistical and other soft wares for data analyses is also a merit.
