The Department of Language Studies invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the didactics of modern languages with a focus on French, Spanish or German. These subjects are offered within the upper secondary school teacher program and as main areas for degrees at the undergraduate and advanced level.

The position is a two-year full-time employment starting on the 1st of November 2020 or upon agreement.

The Department of Language Studies conducts research in linguistics, Nordic languages, modern languages, the literature of modern languages, Sami languages and Sami studies, as well as language didactics and pedagogical work with a focus on language and learning. Qualifications and eligibility requirements
Applicants who have been awarded a doctorate or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate in, or relevant to, one or more of the advertised research areas, qualifies for employment as a postdoctoral fellow.

A precondition is that the applicant has not previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University for more than a year within the same or equivalent discipline. The doctoral degree must be completed no more than three years before the closing date of the application. Candidates who have completed their degree prior to this may be considered if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave or clinical practice, appointments of trust in trade union organizations or similar circumstances.

In the assessment of qualified applicants, primary consideration will be given to research expertise. Particular emphasis will be placed on research publications and the outlined project.

Great emphasis will be placed on the planned project's potential to positively contribute to the research environment at the Department of Language Studies and the existing possibilities of the research environment to positively contribute to the execution of the planned project.

Good writing and oral communication skills in English, as well as good ability to work with others, are requirements for this position.

Job description
The postdoctoral fellow will primarily engage in their own research. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to take an active part in the development of the research environment. The position may involve teaching up to a maximum of 20 percent of the full-time employment.

(6) A concise research plan - must not exceed 30,000 characters incl blank spaces. The research plan must contain descriptions of:
- purpose and problem area
- previous research
- implementation, i.e. method, material, theory and timetable
(7) A list of two reference persons incl. their contact information
