Research Engineer

The department of Computing Science is a dynamically growing department with 130 employees from more than 20 different countries. We conduct research and education in a broad range within the area of computing science.

The research group Interactive and Intelligent Systems conducts research in the field where artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology meets the human and needs to collaborate to support the human in activities. Several research projects focus on AI methods for improving health and wellbeing in individuals, which are conducted in collaboration with researchers in, among other fields, psychology, occupational therapy, and epidemiology. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a research engineer.

The employment can be 50-100% of fulltime, and is time limited to 2021-12-31. Starting date is 2020-09-01 or a later date agreed upon.

Main tasks

Development and maintenance of the research platform ACKTUS, which is based upon technologies for the semantic web, development of ACKTUS-related APIs and user interfaces, and development and integration of data analysis modules. User interfaces can include sensors, augmented reality clients, and dialogue systems. The work is conducted in collaboration with researchers.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • University-level education with in computer science or a related relevant discipline
  • Comprehensive experience with mobile- and web application development, in particular in the context of the modern JavaScript technology ecosystem
  • Good skills in Java programming
  • Experience with administering web servers, and with deploy and maintain web services
  • Good working knowledge of version control systems, e.g., git.
  • Good working knowledge of continuous integration (CI) approaches

Large emphasis will be put on personal qualifications, such as good ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams, work independently, solve problems, communicate and document work.

Moreover, it is meriting to have documented experience from working with open source projects, familiarity with DevOps processes and tools, such as Docker, experience from working with rule-based systems, machine learning and graphical databases (e.g., OWL, RDF). Experience developing alternative user interfaces such as augmented reality or sensor-based user interfaces using technologies like the Unity or Unreal engines is also meriting, as is experience from multidisciplinary research projects related to medicine and health.
