Department of Molecular biology invite to applicate for a two-year postdoctoral position at the Department of molecular biology, Umeå University. The position is full-time for two years with access October 1, 2020 or by agreement.

At the Department of molecular biology, we aim to understand complex biological problems such as infection, immunology, physiology, behaviour and cancer. It also houseone of the strongest Drosophila research environments in Sweden, equipped with cutting-edge research facilities. The surrounding research teams include members from across the world and English is the natural used language at the department. We offer a stimulating, internationally diverse and highly collaborative work environment.

Project description and work tasks

In our team we have this far combined the experimental powerful Drosophila system with mouse genetics to investigate the olfactory system development and function, se www.umu.se/en/research/groups/mattias-alenius-group. Now, we are shifting gears and this position is part of a novel project. The working tasks involves using and developing state of the art Drosophila genomic tools, perform behaviour analyses and develop biochemistry strategies to identify novel signals and mechanisms that relate metabolism level to food choices and intake.

Qualifications

To qualify for a postdoctoral position at Umeå University, you must have been awarded a doctorate or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate in molecular biology, cell biology, physiology or equivalent. Priority should be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the closing date of the application. A candidate who has completed their degree prior to this may be considered if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave or clinical practice, appointments of trust in trade unions or similar circumstances.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in Drosophila research. Great emphasis will be put on ability to take responsibility, creativity, collaborative skills and ability to take initiatives. Good skills in oral and written English is demanded. Skills in Drosophila neuroscience, imaging, metabolism and electrophysiology are meritorious.
