The department of Culture and Media Studies is part of the Faculty of Arts at Umeå University, and has a broad educational and research field within the disciplines ethnology, journalism, art history and visual studies, cultural analysis, literary studies, media and communication studies and museology. The department has about 60 employees and the unique combination of disciplines makes it a creative milieu for research meetings and collaboration between art, culture, media and literature. The department of Culture and Media Studies is looking for a postdoctoral fellow in Media and Communication Studies.

Qualifications and evaluation criteria
A person who has been awarded a doctorate in Media and Communication Studies or the equivalent or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate qualifies for employment as a postdoctoral fellow. A precondition is that the applicant has not previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University for more than a year within the same or equivalent discipline. The degree must be completed no more than three years before the closing date of the application unless special circumstances exist. Special circumstances include absence due to illness, parental leave or clinical practice, appointments of trust in trade union organizations or similar circumstances.

The research merits are the primary basis in the assessment of candidates. The ranking of the candidates is based on the research merits and the relevance and quality of the research plan.

A general assessment criterion is good ability to work with others, as well as the competence and suitability required in order to carry out the work duties successfully.

Further information
The postdoctoral position consists of two-year full-time research, and active participation in the discipline´s research activities. Teaching may be included up to 20 % of a full time position.

The starting date of the employment is 2020-08-01 unless otherwise agreed. The position is placed in Umeå and presence on-site in Umeå to a high degree is required.
