The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 12 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

Description

UCMM-Umeå Center for Molecular Medicine is looking for a project assistant for one year on a project concerning Hypoxia tolerance at C. elegans. This project aims at delineating the molecular mechanism of hypoxia tolerance in C. elegans

Duties

A high-throughput screen will be conducted for mutants that alter animal’s sensitivity to hypoxia. The work is focused on screening C. elegans mutants from the Million Mutant Project to detect novel participants in hypoxia sensitivity. 

This includes, in culture and maintenance of C. elegans strains, sample preparation, interpretation and analysis of genome and RNA sequencing, reporting of data to leading personnel.

 

Qualifications

The candidate shall have Bachelor's degree in biochemistry as well as experience in working with and handling C. elegans and basic knowledge of confocal microscopy; basic knowledge of genome and RNA sequencing data analysis and interpretation.

Desirable qualifications are the starting level at Python and Bash; experience in conducting and supporting scientific research and experiments; set up and conduct controlled experiments and experiments; recording and analysis of data; collection, preparation and testing of samples; present results to senior personnel.
