Senior lecturer in Psychology with a focus on sports and physical activity

The Department of Psychology is looking for 1-2 university lecturers in psychology with a focus on sports and physical activity.

Umeå University, as one of Sweden's National Sports University, seeks several employees in the field of sports science with placement either at the Department of Psychology or the Department of Education. At both institutions have strong sports research environments that run, among other things, the Psychologist program with a focus on sports and the Sports Science program with a focus on strategic leadership and development. In addition, at the Department of Psychology there is a clinical Psychology reception for Sports and at the Department of Education teacher training courses for sports and health.

In the autumn of 2020, the institutions will start a new trainer program together, and for this purpose more staff are needed who conduct relevant research and who have teaching experience in the fields.

As an employee at one of the departments, there are excellent opportunities, through the School of Sports at Umeå University, to use established partnerships with specialized sports associations, to be part of established interdisciplinary research groups and developed international networks and to collaborate with Umeå municipality, local and regional sports organizations and business.

Work duties
The position includes firstly, teaching in the two psychology programmes, the coaching programme and on independent courses that require expertise in the subject area and secondly, research and development work in the field of sports and physical activity.

Eligibility
Under Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, to be eligible to be employed as a university lecturer, firstly you must be able to demonstrate educational expertise, secondly have obtained a doctorate or have equivalent expertise or have some other professional expertise that is of significance with regard to the subject content of the role and the duties that are included with the position.

Eligibility refers to the subject area of sports psychology with a focus on sports and physical activity or the equivalent.

Assessment criteria
General assessment criteria for teachers at Umeå University are both good collaboration, as well as skills and aptitude in other things that are necessary to carry out the work duties well.

Scientific expertise must have been demonstrated through independent scientific production.

The assessment criteria for scientific expertise are:

- breadth and depth of research – quality and scope
- originality of research
- productivity
- contributions to the international scientific community
- assignments within the scientific community
- ability to compete to secure external research funds
- collaboration with surrounding communities

Educational expertise must have been demonstrated through documented experience of teaching on a scientific basis within the university.

The assessment criteria for educational expertise are:
- the ability to plan, carry out and evaluate teaching, as well as the ability to supervise and examine students at all levels of education

- the ability to vary teaching methods and forms of examination in relation to expected study results and the nature of the subject

- experience in collaborating with surrounding communities in the planning and implementation of education

- participation in the development of learning environments, teaching materials and teaching aids
- a reflective approach to student learning and their own role as teacher

Equal care should be devoted to testing educational expertise as much as testing scientific expertise.

Balance between assessment criteria
A particular emphasis will be placed on relevant experience from research within the field of sports psychology (sports and physical activity).

A significant emphasis will be placed on educational skills and teaching experience in the field of sports psychology (sports and physical activity).

A significant emphasis emphasis will also be placed on personal suitability and a well-documented ability to collaborate.

Higher education courses equivalent to at least 7.5 credits will be of merit, as well as being a licensed psychologist.

A significant emphasis will be placed on the ability of the applicant to perform administrative and educational work tasks.
