The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.
We are looking for a Senior research assistant to the Department of Molecular Biology at Umeå University. It is a temporary position for 12 months with start 15th of November 2019. Last day to apply is 30 September 2019.
We offer a scientifically stimulating environment provided by the Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR) at Umeå University and the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. The successful candidate will interact with researchers from different fields and with varied scientific and technical expertise. The project is focused on microbiological, biochemical, molecular biological and structural analysis of ribosome-associated factors. The specific focus is ribosome-associated factors in Bacillus subtilis. The factors are to be studied in live B. subtilis bacteria, as well as using reconstituted B. subtilis translational system, and subjected to cryo-EM reconstructions.
A successful candidate should meet the following criteria. Documented proficiency in B. subtilis genetics as well as biochemistry are essential. Expertise in the specific focus of the current project, i.e. ribosomal biochemistry is needed. A strong publication record in international journals demonstrating the applicant’s proficiency in experimental design and interpretation of the data, as well as proficiency in written and spoken English, as well as in scientific writing is required. Third, the applicant should hold an internationally recognized PhD degree in molecular biology or equivalent.
